Overview – northern tanzania safari
This northern Tanzania safari is designed to maximize your chances of seeing the wildebeest migration safari tours and focuses solely on the migration. This trip is designed to cover the Lake Ndutu region and the southern and central Serengeti National Park where most wildebeest are seen migrating usually from December to April. This trip is designed to travel from Serengeti National Park to Arusha on the last day to save unnecessary travel time and maximize game viewing time.
Day 1: Arrival to northern tanzania safari
Kiware Africa and safaris guide will pick you up at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) and take you to your hotel in Arusha. As local Tanzanians, our guides know well the country and Arusha city, so you’ll be in good hands from when you arrive at the moment you leave.
Day 2: Arusha National Park
After breakfast at the hotel around 8 am you will drive 40 minutes from Arusha city to Arusha National Park. The park has an impressive diversity of animals and plants.
The entrance leads to a dark mountain forest that is home to curious blue monkeys and colorful skinks and lizards – the only place in the Northern Safari Park where you can watch monkeys and lizards. – White colobus monkeys are easy to see. In the middle of the jungle stands the spectacular Ngueradoto crater whose sheer cliffs surround a vast marshland filled with herds of buffalo and wild boar.
Further north the grassy hills surround the beautiful and peaceful Momella Lakes each a different shade of green or blue. The shallow waters are sometimes pink and are home to thousands of flamingos. The lakes are home to large populations of resident and migratory waterfowl as well as downy waterbucks which display large harp-shaped horns at the waters edge.
Giraffes soar over grassy hills amid herds of grazing zebras while a pair of big-eyed antelope dart through the bushes like spindly-legged rabbits. You will be able to see waterbuck buffalo giraffe warthog and zebra as well as various bird species throughout the year. After a full day of driving our driver guide will return you to your hotel for dinner and overnight.
Day 3: Arusha- Tarangire National Park
Pick up from Arusha Hotel at 8:00am and then drive for 3 hours to Tarangire National Park and you can enjoy a full day safari inside the park then drive to Jumbo Lodge for dinner and overnight. Tarangir National Park is located 115 km from Arusha and has an area of 2800 km.
Wild animals drink water from the Tarangere River from which the name Tarangir originates. The parks main attractions include a large number of climbing dragon elephants and baobabs. You will also see lions leopards and other animals.
Day 4: Serengeti Central (Central Seronera)
After waking up in the morning you will enjoy a hearty breakfast load your luggage into your safari jeep and start your journey to the Serengeti. Lunch in the jeep. En route you will see the beautiful Great Rift Valley and Ngorongoro Crater arriving in the Serengeti around 3pm.
In the evening you will drive to the center of the Serengeti where you can watch the sunset then you will have lunch and dinner at Seronera Camp within the Serengeti. The main attractions of the Serengeti are the endless plains and the Serengetis wildebeest migration which includes 1.5 species of herbivore followers and hunters used almost all over the world to move from one area to another. Serengeti due to drought.
Our driver guide will ensure you see part of the wildebeest migration. Large numbers of wildebeest can be seen in the Serengeti as well as large numbers of zebra and smaller populations of Grants gazelle Thompsons gazelle eland and impala.
Day 5: Central Serengeti to North (Kogatende)
Today you will wake up early and enjoy a hearty breakfast before starting your Serengeti game drive where our driver will take you to the Northern Serengeti. Our driver will take you to the main areas of the Serengeti to observe the great wildebeest migration and all the drama it brings but we recommend heading to the Mara River hot spots and the Ndutu plains.
River crossings at Kogatende are expected to begin in July and large herds are moving into the area. Wildlife viewing is best between July and October with the ability to cross the river almost every day.
There is no significant movement as the cattle move back and forth across the river with the rain and consequent fresh grass. In late June and July the migration moves northwest into the Serengeti. So this is the best month to see the migration in the Western Serengeti region. And from August to September you can see the Great Migration in the Northern Serengeti.
Day 6: Serengeti Northern
In this day you will wake up early morning and have your full breakfast, then you will start your game drive inside Serengeti, as you will have full day in Serengeti our driver will drive you to the key areas in Serengeti.
We will make sure that you will follow wildebeest migration where they will during your tour with us.
The Great migration varies every year the best chance of seeing it is during June up to September while the wildebeest calving is from January to March, for the July up to September our driver will be able to take to northern Serengeti where they be able to see the great wildebeest migration crossing the Mara River.
1.5 million of these majestic animals migrate throughout the year in search of fresh forage and following the rainy season in search of better water sources. After a full day of safari return to your accommodation for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 7: Serengeti to Ngorongoro
You will wake 5.45 for early breakfast and see the Sun rise inside Serengeti, after you finish your breakfast, you will do early morning game drive up to 11.30am then you head back to campsite for the hot lunch and pack your stuff in the jeep.
This time after the same lunch we go on a game drive in the Serengeti then head to Ngorongoro Crater for dinner and overnight at Simba Camp.
Day 8: Ngorongoro Crater Tour
You will wake up around 5.30 in the morning and after breakfast you will go down to the Ngorongoro Crater where you can see the big five. You will also see different types of birds: There is a black rhinoceros in the crater. On this day you will have lunch at a crater overlooking the nature and the high attention of the flamingos.
Later after 6 to 7 hours of game drive to the base of the crater you will load all your stuff in the Jeep and climb out of the crater via the campsite and prepare to return to Jumbo Lodge for dinner and overnight. This day after your visit to the crater you can take a walking road to Mto Wa Mbu village where you will visit banana plantations and experience the local way of life and the taste of local cuisine.
Day 9: Lake Manyara National Park
After your breakfast you will continue to Lake Manyara for a full day game drive in the park you will see tree lions and many climbing flamingos attracted by the algae in the lake and you will visit the hot springs. On the same day you will visit Masai Bo where you will learn how they live and their culture and traditions and then return to Arusha for dinner and dinner.
Day 10: Departure
Drop off to Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO).
