7 DAY SELOUS SAFARI: A WILDLIFE ADVENTURE OF A LIFETIME

Selous Safari Overview

It is a charming region of Tanzania and one of the best safari areas in Tanzania. The two most important hunting grounds in the region are Ruha and Selous which are certainly among the best game reserves in East Africa. Departure base from Dar es Salaam.

A Selous safari is not just a vacation; it’s an expedition into the untamed wilderness, where the rhythm of nature dictates the day. Let’s dive into the unique allure of Selous Game Reserve and the exceptional experiences it offers.

Day 1: Selous Safari Adventure: Wildlife Exploration
Day 2 And 3 : Selous Game Reserve – Selous Vacation
Day 4: Fly To Ruaha National Park
Day 5 And 6: Ruaha National Park
Day 7: Fly Back To Dar Es Salaam

Day 1: Selous Safari Adventure: Wildlife Exploration

Pickup from your hotel in the early hours and transport to Dar es Salaam Domestic Terminal for your charter flight bound for Selous Game Reserve. Upon arrival in the early morning, your hotel will pick you up, facilitating your participation in two shared game drives and lunch at the chosen property. Flying over Selous, you’ll witness the vastness of this renowned park, one of the largest in Africa.

Despite a significant portion being designated for hunting purposes, there’s still an abundance of wildlife to appreciate and observe. The Rufiji River boasts a bustling population of hippos and crocodiles, while the park’s avian diversity is truly impressive.

Frequent lion sightings are a norm since these opportunistic predators often lounge near lakes, anticipating the arrival of prey. Another draw of the reserve is the opportunity to encounter wild dogs.

For this aerial safari, accommodation choices tend to be more upscale as we are limited to establishments offering game package options, which generally fall within mid-range and luxury categories.

Our recommendations are:

Rufiji River Camp
Selous Impala Camp
Nomad Sand Rivers

Day 2 And 3 : Selous Game Reserve – Selous Vacation

Days in Selous Game Reserve are entirely tailored to your preferences, offering complete flexibility in organizing activities to suit your desires. Your guide or camp manager will collaborate with you to establish the most suitable schedule, considering game drives and wake-up times. Typically, a standard safari day consists of two shared game drives, allowing for a morning excursion followed by a return to the camp for lunch and relaxation, concluding with an afternoon game drive.

An additional excursion option available is the Walking and Boat Safari.

Accommodations for these flying safaris tend to be more exclusive, limited to establishments offering game package options, often found within mid-range and luxury categories.

Our recommendations are:

Rufiji River Camp
Selous Impala Camp
Nomad Sand Rivers

Day 4: Fly To Ruaha National Park.

Following an early morning meal, you’ll be transported to the airstrip for your flight to Ruaha National Park, traversing the vast plains of Selous. If fortunate, you might catch glimpses of animals engaged in their morning activities. By approximately 11 am, you’ll arrive at your next exceptional safari destination, where you’ll have the opportunity for 2 shared game drives and lunch at your chosen lodging. Renowned as Tanzania’s largest park, Ruaha boasts an abundance of predators, notably extensive prides of lions and the endangered wild dog. This park exudes a genuine sense of wilderness, showcasing diverse wildlife, and offers an extraordinary immersion in Tanzania’s natural beauty, benefiting from relatively lower visitor numbers.

For these flying safaris, the available accommodation options tend to be more exclusive, limited to establishments offering game package options, typically found in mid-range and luxury categories.

Our recommendations are:

Mdonya River Camp
Ikuka Safari Camp
Jabali Ridge

Day 5 And 6: Ruaha National Park.

Days spent in Ruaha National Park provide complete flexibility tailored to your preferences. Your guide or camp manager will collaborate with you to plan the schedule, including game drives and wake-up times, to best suit your preferences. A typical safari day might consist of two shared game drives, allowing you to embark on a morning game drive, return to camp for lunch and leisure, and conclude with an afternoon game drive.

Accommodation options for these flying safaris tend to be more exclusive, limited to establishments that offer game package options, often available in mid-range and luxury categories.

Our recommendations are:

Mdonya River Camp
Ikuka Safari Camp
Jabali Ridge

Day 7: Fly Back To Dar Es Salaam

This day entails an early rise for an exhilarating early morning game drive, offering the chance to witness a spectacular sunrise and observe animals during their most active period. It’s truly among the most captivating experiences one can have. Following the game drive, we head back to the camp for a fulfilling breakfast and subsequently make our way to the airstrip for your flight back to Dar es Salaam, or your next extraordinary destination, such as Zanzibar. Alternatively, if preferred, you can opt for a relaxed morning at the camp instead of the early game drive.

8 day Mt Kilimanjaro Trek My mother and I completed the 8 day trek to Uhuru Peak of Mt Kilimanjaro. Can’t say enough amazing things about our experience: Our guides (Florian and Loma) were incredibly prepared, professional, and knowledgeable about everything trek-related. The porters and chef were extremely kind and felt more like family than strangers by the end of our camp and trek journey. Our belongings were safe and handled with care. The food was prepared with love and tasted delicious (and even accommodated all dietary restrictions).. They met us where we were at each and every morning and prepared us for everything ahead each night. Both my mother and I were able to peak with no complications and get down the mountain without any injuries or complications to note. There was never a question about safety while camping, hiking, or peaking. They handled all transportation from the airport, to the national park, and back to our hotel accommodations. This company truly went above and beyond for us. This review is the least I could do to encourage anyone to book a tour with them.

Memories for lifetime I was very sceptic as no much information was available about KIWARE on the open domain however they are one of the few who was willing to offer a itinerary as per my requirements (as I was a solo traveler from India ) . However spoke to Mr Elia , special mention to him as he was the one who was constantly in touch with me and made the itinerary exactly what I needed . With lots in mind I reached Arusha airport and things changed from there . Everything was spot on ….and happened exactly what they promised/mentioned . They received me and put me up at a hotel which was absolutely amazing. The nxt day the trip started and what a trip it was…one of the most memorable trip of my life . I have to mention to the driver /guide Samuel L Laizer, amazing guide , amazing driver an amazing human and now a very good friend . His ever smiling face made the long days of game spotting quite a fun. The famous BIG FIVE was spotted on the very first day itself and the second day was fun again with additional treat as we were able to spot few Rhinos (from quite a distance) . The accommodation I opted for was of Camping ( would recommend everyone to try it …gives a rustic and authentic experience) . We were provided with all 3 meals (absolutely amazing) Water bottle on the trip Nevertheless the 3 days were absolutely amazing and would definitely recommend everyone to trust and go ahead with KIWARE adventures. I made memories of life and HAVE LEFT A PIECE OF ME BACK THEIR !! PS- anyone needs the full itinerary or any specific input about the trip can reach me at rupakneogi1317@gmail.com
