Great Wildebeest Migration Safari – Lake Manyara Safari Camp

Begin the scenic journey with an 8am pick-up from your hotel and a full day drive to Lake Manyara Safari Camp in the Great Rift Valley. Despite its small size (205 square miles) the park offers spectacular views and is known for its lush acacia forests with giant fig and mahogany trees as well as a thriving population of baboons and blue monkeys.

Giraffes impala elephants and a large number of buffalo are permanent residents of the park. This lake also has many hippos. Some unique facts in this park include lions climbing flamingo trees on the edge of the lake as well as ground hornbills and crested eagles.

The landscape of Lake Manyara is indescribable and a game drive along the lake offers a great opportunity to see giraffes and buffalo in the foreground and the lake (and its flamingos) in the background. Several additional tours can be taken during the day including bicycle or boat tours. In the afternoon transfer to camp for dinner.

Head to Tarangire National Park (or add an extra day and visit both) as there are plenty of lodges serving the park. All of our recommendations (except Manyara Tree Lodge and Beyond) are outside the park in the Manyara and Mto Wa Mbu areas.

After breakfast they will leave early for Serengeti the most famous national park in the world. It has been a long but wonderful journey. You drive over the mountain crater with a quick stop at the rim for a world view of the Ngorongoro Crater. It will be an unforgettable moment for everyone who sees it for the first time.

Once you enter the Serengeti you will see why the name means endless plains in the local language. The park is 6900 square kilometers (18000 square miles) and many fields stretch to the horizon stretching your senses and your perception of distances.

It is home to the great wildebeest migration and Great Migration 2 million wild animals hundreds of thousands of zebras and all kinds of ostriches including Thomsons goats and many impalas. It is the choice place to see lions leopard hyenas for big cats and big carnivores.

More than 500 species of birds live in the park along with smaller animals like mongoose foxes honey foxes sphinx monkeys hyrax rock hares African rabbits. You will have a chance to stop on your way to the park. A visit to Olduvai Gorge is a popular place where Mary Leakey end Dr. Louis discovered the remains of the first man to walk the earth.

The tour includes an archaeological dig and a short lecture explaining the geological features of the valley and a visit to its museum. After a long but wonderful drive and a wonderful afternoon game we were on our way. Serengeti has accommodation for all types and styles.

On this day we recommend getting up early so you can go on an early morning game drive (when the animals are most active) and see one of the most beautiful sunrises youll ever see.

After our game drive we return to camp for a free breakfast before heading to Ngorongoro the eighth natural wonder of the world. Covering 102 square miles and with walls 2000 feet high the crater is almost like Noahs Ark and is home to almost all of East Africas native wildlife.

This is one of the very rare places on the entire continent where black rhinos can be seen. Africas wildlife density is the highest on the continent. This crater includes several rivers swamps soda lakes thick forests flamingos and open plains. It is also famous for being the largest elephant in the world and has huge tusks. This is due to the mineral wealth of the volcanic soil and its grass.

The Ngorongoro Crater is a natural wonder. You will arrive at Ngorongoro at sunset. Day game safaris are available in the Ngorongoro Highlands. Most of the habitats in Ngorongoro lie outside the Ngorongoro Conservation Area.

Today you will drive through one of the wonders of the natural world. Well start the day early and get down to the crater floor to enjoy a wonderful morning of wildlife in one of the most amazing places on Earth.

After your trip you will have time to have a picnic lunch near the beautiful Lake Hippo. After lunch there will be time for a short drive before we climb the crater and leave the Ngorongoro Conservation Area towards Arusha. We expect to return to Arusha around 5pm but have the flexibility to take a flight or other options.

Add an extra day to visit the Hadzabe tribe at Lake Eyasi or the Oldonyo Sambo Masai village. For a more authentic off-the-beaten-path experience we recommend visiting Lake Eyasi at the end of your safari (not Arusha) after completing your Ngorongoro drive to visit the fascinating Hadzabe tribe the next day.

This is one of the last truly nomadic tribes in Africa and is a truly wonderful experience as you will join the villagers in their local morning activities. Alternatively you can still end your safari in Arusha and the next day visit a traditional Maasai village where you will be guided by a Maasai leader who will tell you about their customs lifestyle cooking techniques and the way they take care of their livestock.

Their songs and dances. There is also an opportunity to watch local traditional dances of village women. Both experiences provide great photo opportunities. Your safari experience will be richer and more rewarding with a program that includes cultural visits to local villages and the local community will also benefit from rural tourism.
