Climb Africa’s highest peak via the Marangu Route, known for its comfort and efficiency. Over 6 days on the mountain, you’ll sleep in mountain huts instead of tents, trek through diverse ecosystems, and summit Uhuru Peak for breathtaking views.
This 9-day trip includes arrival and departure days, making it a complete and convenient adventure.
The Marangu Route is one of the most budget-friendly and fastest ways to reach Kilimanjaro’s summit—but that doesn’t mean it lacks excitement. You’ll still immerse yourself in the mountain’s stunning natural beauty and enjoy incredible views from the top.
However, it’s worth noting that this route can get crowded during peak season, offers less time for acclimatization, and follows the same path up and down, which means you’ll see less variety in scenery compared to other routes.
If camping isn’t your style, you’ll appreciate that the Marangu Route features comfortable hut accommodations instead of tents. And here’s a fun bit of trivia to share on the trail: it’s famously known as the “Coca-Cola Route”—a nickname earned because soft drinks were once available at the huts!

Upon landing at Kilimanjaro International Airport, your guide will warmly welcome you and transfer you to your hotel.
Upon your arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, a friendly Kiware Africa Safari Tours guide will be there to greet you. You’ll be transferred to your hotel, where you can unwind after your journey.
Later, you’ll meet your mountain guide for a pre-climb briefing, where you’ll receive helpful advice on what to pack, what to wear, and other key tips to ensure you're fully prepared for your Kilimanjaro adventure.
Your Kilimanjaro adventure begins! After breakfast, your guide will drive you to Marangu Gate, the starting point of your trek. The trail leads you through scenic landscapes, including coffee and banana plantations, followed by dense, untouched rainforest rich in wildlife and vibrant plant life. After about seven hours of hiking, you’ll arrive at Mandara Huts, your first overnight stop. In the afternoon, you can take a short walk to explore the nearby Maundi Crater, or simply relax and take in the peaceful surroundings. Don’t forget to stay hydrated—this is your first day at higher altitude!
As you leave Mandara Huts, the scenery begins to shift dramatically. You’ll hike through open moorland, surrounded by striking views, unusual plants, and the raw beauty of Mount Kilimanjaro’s high-altitude terrain.
As you climb higher, vegetation becomes sparse and the landscape takes on a moon-like appearance, with cooler temperatures and thinner air. After an exhilarating day of trekking, you’ll reach the Horombo Huts, where a warm meal and a restful night await.
This is your acclimatization day, an important step in preparing your body for the summit. After breakfast, you’ll hike up to Kibo Huts Camp at 4,720 meters and then return to Horombo Huts. This round-trip helps your body gradually adjust to the altitude, increasing your chances of a successful summit.
After lunch, you can rest, take photos of the dramatic Mawenzi Volcano, or explore the area at your own pace. Spend another night at Horombo Huts, well-rested and ready for the next stage of the climb.
Today’s trek takes you through a stark and beautiful alpine desert, as you make your way toward Kibo Huts, nestled between the peaks of Kibo and Mawenzi. The trail becomes more exposed, with little vegetation or shelter, offering sweeping views and a true sense of high-altitude wilderness.Though the hike is physically demanding, the excitement of nearing the summit of Kilimanjaro keeps you motivated. You’ll arrive at Kibo Huts in time for lunch—be sure to hydrate well and rest thoroughly as you prepare for summit night.
This is the most important and demanding day of your climb. Just after midnight, you begin your final ascent to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. The toughest stretch is the initial climb to Gilman’s Point, but once you reach it, the trail to Uhuru Peak becomes more manageable. At the summit, celebrate your achievement with a breathtaking sunrise and unforgettable panoramic views. After soaking it all in, you’ll descend back through Kibo Huts and continue down to Horombo Huts, where you’ll have dinner and spend the night. Expect to be on your feet for around 12 hours—a long, tough, but incredibly rewarding day!
Your unforgettable adventure concludes today with a scenic 5–6 hour descent through lush forests, as you make your way back to Marangu Gate, the official exit of Kilimanjaro National Park.
At the gate, you’ll receive your summit certificate—a token of your incredible accomplishment. From there, your guide will transfer you back to the hotel, where you can finally relax, celebrate your success, and reflect on the awe-inspiring journey you’ve completed.
As your Kilimanjaro adventure comes to a close, take some time to relax and enjoy your final moments in Tanzania. When it’s time, our driver will pick you up and transfer you to Kilimanjaro International Airport for your flight home.
